Earth & Art
Like an outdoor art gallery, Griffis Sculpture Park combines the worlds of Earth and Art together to form a beautiful 450 acre park, located about eight miles outside of Ellicottville. Griffis is one of the oldest and largest sculpture parks in America dating back to the early 1960's, thanks to Larry Griffis Jr. and other international artists.
With over 250 mega sculptures, CSAT 5th graders set out on a hike to explore this beautiful park. Their adventure was full of discovery and exploration as the students were able to interact with these large sculptures. Their unique experience took them out of the city as they hiked the trails to find sculptures resembling mushrooms and castles to spaceships, insects and more.
While they went on a scavenger hunt looking for a handful of objects to find, here's what the students had to say about their experience.
“In art there are sculptures and in nature there are also sculptures.” A. Moscoco
“Art goes great with nature because it makes it better.” L. Jaeckle
“Art and nature are connected by texture and color.” R. Morrison
