Students entering Kindergarten for the 2019-2020 school year must be five years old on or before December 1, 2019.
If my child is on the waitlist for this current year (2018-2019), do I have to re-apply for 2019-20?
YES! Applications from previous years do not roll over into the following school year. All 2018-2019 applicants MUST reapply if they are interested in enrollment for 2019-2020.
Applications received by the 12:00 noon April 1, 2019 deadline will be included in CSAT's Enrollment Lottery on April 4, 2019.
1) Reside in the Kenmore-Tonawanda School District -OR-
2) Have one or more sibling(s) currently enrolled in CSAT -OR-
3) Have a parent or legal guardian who is an employee of CSAT
are given a 1-point preference in the lottery. If an applicant meets two of the above criteria, they receive a 2-point preference. If an applicant meets all three of the above criteria, they receive a 3-point preference.
Since CSAT is located within the boundaries of the Kenmore-Tonawanda Union Free School District, applicants who reside in that district are placed in a preferential lottery. Proof of residence is required upon submission of application.
Applicants who currently have one or more siblings attending CSAT are placed in a preferential lottery. Siblings are defined as students who share a legal guardian. The full name and current grade of the sibling(s) must be provided on the application.
"CSAT Staff Preference"
Applicants who have a parent or legal guardian employed at CSAT are placed in a preferential lottery.
By law, charter schools' enrollment population is completed through a random lottery system.
Completed applications received by the 12:00 noon April 1, 2019 deadline will be entered into the lottery drawing and pulled by a third party on April 4, 2019. If there are enrollment openings for the grade being pulled, those spots are filled first and remaining applicants are placed in the order in which they are drawn onto the 2019-20 waitlist.
Applicants with a 3-point preference are drawn first, then 2-point preference, followed by those with a 1-point preference, and then finally, applicants with no preference are drawn.
If one of my children is selected through the lottery, does that mean all of my children can attend?
Only the child(ren) chosen in the lottery is/are offered enrollment. However, in subsequent years, your other children would be given Sibling Preference in the lottery if their applications are received by the lottery deadline.
Yes. Each child needs their own, individual application to be eligible for the lottery and admission.
This is an impossible question to answer with 100 percent certainty as it depends on many factors.
1) How many openings there will be in 2019-20.
2) How many applications CSAT receives for that grade level.
3) If your child has a sibling enrolled at CSAT, resides in Ken-Ton, and/or has a parent or legal guardian employed at CSAT.
All applicants included in the lottery will be notified by mail in the days following the event (April 4, 2019) if they have been selected for enrollment or placed on the waitlist (including their number on the waitlist).
After the lottery has taken place, the Enrollment Office will only call the phone number listed on the application to offer enrollment. Therefore, it is imperative that you inform the Enrollment Office of any changes to your contact information: 710-3068.
Applications may be submitted after Open Enrollment (Dec. 3, 2018 - April 1, 2019), however they are placed at the end of the waitlist in the order that they are received.
Please note that the Ken-Ton, sibling, and/or CSAT staff preferences are only given for applications received during Open Enrollment -- there are no preferences given after the Open Enrollment period has ended (April 1, 2019 at 12:00 noon).
Not all students who are offered placement at CSAT accept the offer. The waitlist remains in place for the entire school year. As positions become available at each grade level, offers are made to the next student on the waitlist. It is possible that even with a lower number on the waiting list, your child may still be offered placement. You will be notified by telephone if an opening becomes available for your child. Please keep in mind that applications from previous years do not roll over into the following school year. If your child is still on the waitlist, you must re-apply if you want your child to be considered for the next year.
There are no admission requirements to attend CSAT, or any charter school. There are no entrance exams and no cost to attend. Additionally, special education and ESL services are offered at CSAT.
No, once a child is enrolled at CSAT, no matter the building (grade level), he/she has first priority in enrollment for the following year as long as their Intent to Return form is turned in on time. "Intent to Return" forms are mailed to parents/guardians of current students each January and are due back to the school in February.
